Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Heirloom Tomatoes - 22 November 2023
Dave's Market Update
In Fruit
“All stone fruit is back a bit in price this week with the exception of mangoes. We have excellent specials with imperfect nectarines this week, they are the best value of the stone fruit.
Cherries continue to flood in from everywhere. We are putting the slightly smaller fruit in 500 gm punnets, very well priced, the large fruit is still reasonable however more expensive. Be careful when shopping for punnet cherries - most are now selling 300 gm punnets. However, with the price and quality being what they are, we will stick with the bigger punnets.
Apricots are eating fantastically as are lychees. Berries are still very reasonable except perhaps blueberries which are in the process of changing over growing areas. The best value per kilo of edible flesh in mangoes is again Honey Golds this week, they are stunningly good eating.
In Veg
The best value in vegetables this week are the heirloom tomatoes. Half last week’s price and also very good value are the new season Sydney basin Roma tomatoes.
Lebanese cucumbers again from the Sydney basin have crashed in price this week. Pre-pack corn is top quality and cheap in all stores and broccoli has nearly halved in price compared to last week. Look for a rhubarb special this weekend.”

Dave's Pick of the Week
“My pick this week are our delicious Heirloom tomatoes.
This week we have top quality, new season Sydney basin Roma tomatoes on an excellent ticket and an assortment of well-priced, great eating snacking tomatoes. None of these however are near as fantastic to eat as our heirloom tomatoes.
Heirloom tomatoes got their name because they were passed down from generation to generation, like an heirloom piece of jewellery. The seeds are what make an heirloom tomato. The farmers take the seeds from the tomato plants that produced the best eating fruit.
Best news of all is that they are in our Sydney stores at half the price they were a week ago. Don’t miss this bargain.”
